Many of you noticed the new last week that I’d be updated Chim Chum four times a week for the time being. I’m happy to announce that the reason for this is to be able to provide you even more Chim Chum. Yes, that doesn’t seem to make sense, I know. I’ll explain myself, so wait a few more moments before alerting the authorities to my mental illness.
You may be aware that I’ve been preparing a book collection of the first 250 Chim Chum comics. (It was actually supposed to be released at Christmas.) I had an unfortunate surprise when I got to strip #157… Almost 100 of the high resolution scans I needed to compile the book had died with the passing of my last laptop. Faced with the daunting task of re-scanning and formatting so many comics, I had to delay the book.
It occurred to me that I could do a number of things to get the book out sooner. I could compile less strips, for one. I didn’t like the idea of a 50 page book, so that was out. I spend what precious free time I still have to do all the rescanning and formatting now. Again, due to life circumstances and the fact that Chim Chum is still largely just a hobby, that didn’t make sense either. The third and ultimately most appealing idea was to find a different format for the comics.
Furthermore, I decided that most of the extra time I’d have to spend to reformat and rescan all those missing strips would be devoted to brand new stuff. And, while I am at it, I wanted to go back and fix up some of the older comics to reflect the current art style of the comic.
So, I’m announcing here, for the first time, Chim Chum Funnies #1. It’s a 32 page comic book featuring Chim Chum’s first comics woven into a brand new story. The finishing touches are almost in place, and a follow-up announcement about how you’ll be able to purchase it will be coming soon. The important thing to remember is this: The new, multi-page story will ONLY be available to those who purchase this comic. It’ll be (absolutely) in a digital and (probably) in a print form. And you’ll be able to pick it up for a very reasonable price. Here’s the work-in-progress cover:
And it’ll feature a bunch of new stuff, including these “Thank you, George Lucas” brand updates to the first few Chim Chum strips. Here’s a comparison of the original and new versions:
So, what do you think? Does this interest you? Are there specific things you’d like to see in the new comic? Would you be willing to buy it digitally through Graphically or Comixology? Any thoughts you have are welcome. This is my first venture into this universe, so I’d be happy for the feedback.
Thanks, as always, for your amazing words of support and loyalty. I hope I can continue to offer you something you really enjoy ready. And keep a look out VERY SOON for more news about the comic.
